Do I have to sign up for VRChat Plus to play VRChat?

Absolutely not. VRChat Plus is an optional way for the community to support VRChat and ongoing development.

However, if you do decide to support VRChat via VRChat Plus, we give you a few features in return that aren’t essential for playing VRChat. It’s our small way of saying thanks!

Along with VRChat Plus, we are releasing several significant updates to features for all players— everyone gets access to the new sleek nameplates! In addition, we’ve upgraded all players to have 25 avatar favorite slots.

Future features and improvements will continue to release for both VRChat and VRChat Plus players.

Why is VRChat creating VRChat Plus?

Supporting VRChat through VRC+ helps us fund development, server costs and more. VRChat is currently funded by our investors and partners. We're grateful for their ongoing support as we work towards self-sufficiency.

Our long-term goal is to let creators support themselves with the things they create in VRChat: building worlds, avatars, performances, experiences, events and beyond. VRChat Plus is the first step in building towards that goal.

We’re still working out how our future systems will work, and we’ll share more as time goes on.

What are my options to purchase VRChat Plus?

VRChat Plus is available on Steam and the Oculus Quest Store. Here are your options:

Steam:

  • US$9.99 per month

  • $99.99 per year (save 16 %!)

Oculus Quest Store:

If I am using VRChat on a platform other than Steam or the Oculus Quest Store, how do I get VRChat Plus?

Your VRChat + Benefits are attached to your VRChat Account and whatever platform-specific account it’s merged with.

This means that you can have a VRChat account that you primarily use on another platform (like Oculus PC) but purchase your subscription through Steam, as long as your Oculus PC account is merged into your VRChat account.

As an example, if you are using an Oculus PC account, you will need to create a VRChat account, and merge your Oculus PC account into your VRChat account.

After you do so, you can install VRChat on a PC using Steam. Log into your VRChat account, click on the VRC+ menu item, and follow the prompts to purchase VRChat Plus.

Your VRChat Plus subscription will provide benefits even if you play VRChat using another platform, such as Oculus PC.

A single Steam platform account can only subscribe to VRChat Plus once for a single VRChat account. Ensure that you are on the correct VRChat account before purchasing VRChat Plus.

If you have VRChat Plus on a Steam account and then decide to merge that account into a VRChat account, the VRChat Plus subscription will move to the VRChat account.

You can use a single Steam account to switch VRChat Plus subscriptions between VRChat accounts by cancelling the initial subscription and re-subscribing with the new VRChat account.

We are working towards providing more options on more platforms for purchasing VRChat Plus.

How do I use the Custom User Icons feature included with my VRChat Plus subscription?

When you are an active supporter, you will have the option to upload images to your account on the VRChat website. You can select one of these images to appear as an “icon” next to your nameplate. You can access this page by clicking on the Icons button on the sidebar in the VRChat Home interface.

You can also upload pictures you take in VRChat via the User Icon interface.

Who do I talk to if I have problems with my subscription?

If you have issues with the features enabled while subscribing to VRChat Plus, please feel free to contact our Support team.

Subscription fees are processed through our platform partners. If you are having issues with paying for VRChat, please contact either Steam or Oculus, depending on which platform you are trying to perform the transaction on. For the moment, since we only support Steam and Oculus Quest Store for purchases, you should contact their support service.

The platforms on which we offer VRChat Plus subscription payments do not permit refunds for subscriptions. VRChat does not offer refunds for subscriptions after they are purchased.

Nothing is popping up when I click the button to subscribe.

  1. Ensure you are running VRChat on a supported platform for purchase. At the moment, only supported platforms are Steam and the Oculus Quest Store.

  2. If you have a headset connected, please check your headset for the Steam popup.

  3. Please make sure you are launching VRChat from your Steam library and not any shortcuts.

  4. Please make sure the Steam Overlay is enabled in both the Steam settings and the VRChat Properties.

What happens when my subscription runs out?

When your subscription lapses:

  1. Your user icon will be unselected and cleared, and you will no longer display an icon on your nameplate. Your uploaded icons are saved, but you won’t be able to swap to them.

  2. You will lose access to your VRChat Plus-granted favorite avatar rows. You will retain access to your first 25 favorite avatars in the first row. The data for the second, third, and fourth rows will be stored so you may access it again if you decide to restart your subscription.

  3. You will retain any “Early Supporter” statuses or badges.

  4. You will retain Trust gained from the VRChat Plus Trust boost.

  5. Other features that VRChat+ may give you access to will be disabled or removed. Where possible, data will be saved so that you may access it again if you restart your subscription.

How do I cancel my VRChat Plus subscription?

This depends on the platform you’re using to purchase your subscription. At this time, we only support purchase through the Steam and Oculus Quest Store.

Steam

In Steam, access your account details by visiting the Steam Account Details page. You can also access this by clicking the arrow next to your name in the Steam client in the top right corner, then clicking Account Details.

On this page, click “Manage Subscriptions.” Here, you can cancel or renew subscriptions. You can also reach this page by clicking on the “VRC+” main menu item in VRChat, and clicking the “Manage Subscription” button.

Canceling a subscription will stop recurring payments, and your current subscription term will run until it expires.

For more details, check out the Steam Support article on recurring subscriptions.

Oculus Quest Store

From your Oculus headset (in-VR) select “Your Account” in the Store left sidebar followed by “Subscriptions”. Find and select “VRChat” followed by “Cancel Subscription”. Choose confirm to finalize the process.

Canceling a subscription will stop recurring payments, and your current subscription term will run until it expires.

For more details, along with options to cancel on the Oculus mobile app and website, check out the Oculus Quest Support article on cancelling subscriptions.

How much does my Trust Rank increase while I’m subscribed to VRChat Plus?

If you ever purchase VRChat Plus, we apply a small, one-time boost to the Trust on your account.

VRChat Trust is a measure of how much the VRChat systems trust a user. Trust Ranks are gained by participation in VRChat community and creation. This translates into the Safety System.

This Trust value is a number calculated through many metrics. When your Trust value raises sufficiently due to your activity, you gain a Trust rank.

If you decide to support us via VRChat Plus, we offer you a small boost in this Trust value, as you’ve given us reason to do so. This boost is a one-time value change, and you will retain the boost even if your VRChat Plus subscription lapses.

This boost is relatively small, and has diminishing returns. If you are a Visitor, the boost will bring you to New User, enabling content upload capabilities. If you are a New User, it is possible that your rank may be boosted to User depending on how long you’ve been playing. However, if you are a User or Known User, the boost is unlikely to have any affect on the Trust rank you have.

Of course, if you are a Trusted User — the highest Trust Rank we use — then it won’t have any affect at all. The highest Trust rank a user may attain is Trusted.

The Trust system has mitigated (and continues to mitigate) many different issues regarding trolling and harassment. We’ll continue to iterate on the system and adjust it in the background.
