COOKIE POLICY
Effective Date: August 20, 2024
VRChat and its partners use cookies and other related tracking technologies (together, “Tracking Technologies”), including third-party Tracking Technologies, on our websites, applications, email communications, other online services (together, the “Platform”). This Cookie Policy explains the types of Tracking Technologies we use, how we use them, and certain choices available to you. For more detailed information about we collect and use information, please review our Privacy Policy.
Types of Tracking Technologies
We use the following types of tracking technologies
“Cookies” are small text files that websites and apps store on your browser or device that are used to remember your browser or device during and across website visits. Cookies may be created and placed by VRChat (in which case they are referred to as “first party” cookies), or by other companies (in which case they are referred to as “third party cookies”). We use both “session cookies,” which expire when you close your browser, and “persistent cookies,” which expire after a set period of time (even if you close your browser).
“Web Beacons” are tiny graphics (sometimes called “clear GIFs” or “web pixels”) with a unique identifier that are used to understand browsing activity. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on your hard drive, web beacons are rendered invisibly on web pages when you open a page.
“Software Development Kits” (also called SDKs) function like cookies and web beacons, but operate in the mobile app context where pixels and cookies cannot always function. SDKs permit the collection of information about the app itself, activity in the app, and the device the application is running on.
“Local Storage Objects” are sets of data that can be stored on your browser by a site or app. They can be used to maintain preferences, a history of usage, or even the state or settings of a site or an app.
Types and Purposes of Cookies
The table below discloses the different categories of cookies that we use and why we use them. The lists of third-party cookie providers are intended merely as illustrative and should not be viewed as a comprehensive list.

Analytics, Performance, and Research | These Tracking Technologies are used to understand how you interact with the Platform and monitor the performance of our Platform. They also help us analyze, improve, and develop our Platform. For example, we may use Tracking Technologies to understand how you are using site features and segment audiences for feature testing. | Amplitude, Google, Mixpanel |
