Apple iOS Beta Signups Are Now Active

We’re ready to announce that we’re now accepting beta testers for the VRChat iOS Closed Beta! We’ve been cooking this one up for quite some time, as we first hinted at when we announced that we were beginning the Android Alpha last year.

The Closed Beta for iOS will work a little differently than the Android version, however.

We will be opening up an application for iOS beta testers. You can access this form via the VRChat website. Simply sign into your account, and you should see this banner at the top:

Once you click through, you should see a form that looks like this:

If you have one of those devices, and want to participate, fill it out and click Submit!

When we’re ready, we’ll invite folks in, continuing to invite more and more testers as we feel comfortable doing so.

We’ll be accepting applications for testers for about three weeks. From there, we’ll evaluate if we want to bring more people into the test.

So, who makes a good tester?

Right now, we’re looking for existing VRChat users who own devices that run iOS (see the application for specific devices we’re looking for, and please note that they might change over time). We’re also looking for people that aren’t expecting a flawless experience. This is a test, and we’re looking for users that will be okay with a bit of instability, and who will be willing to provide us with feedback on what they like and dislike.

You can also find additional questions answered below!

Q: How long will the Closed Beta run?

A: Currently, there is no fixed timeline. Our goal is to release a polished, stable product that we’re happy with. We want users (both old and new) to have something they love using. Until that happens, we likely won’t move to the next phase!

Q: Will there be an Open Beta?

A: There could be a very limited Open Beta once we’re happy with how things are going, but at this time, nothing is planned.

Q: What sort of iOS device do you need to run the beta?

A: Right now, we’re targeting iOS devices with 6 GB+ of RAM. However, that does not mean we won’t include users that own other devices for testing purposes in the future.

Q: What content is visible?

A: That’s complicated! We have a few tricks up our sleeve for bringing over Android content for iOS – but right now, everything is in a very early test phase. It’s safe to say that the iOS experience will be different than that of other platforms, but to what extent is still very much up in the air. We’re hopeful that things will be pretty similar, though. Testing will help us figure things out!

Q: Will the iOS app be similar to the Android app?

A: Generally, yes. There are some small differences, but overall it should be a similar mobile VRChat experience.

We’re so excited to start testing VRChat on iOS!

Please keep your eyes on our social accounts for more announcements – and if you sign up for the beta, keep an eye on your email account for updates about your participation in the program.

As usual, thanks so much for loving VRChat as much as we do. See you in the beta!
